Review: Episode 2 puts HBO’s GAME OF THRONES into fast-paced motion

Ned Stark (Sean Bean) faces a harsh injustice in GAME OF THRONESEpisode One of HBO’s fantasy drama GAME OF THRONES put all the players on the board in its premiere. Episode Two The Kingsroad sets the game in action, finding the Stark family in crisis mode, caught in the middle of a rising tide of political upheaval threatening all of Westeros.

Given its melancholy emotional tone and quickened pace over events of George R.R. Martin‘s novel, this second installment bears more than a passing resemblance to the dramatic function of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK in the STAR WARS saga, but for a long narrative road waiting ahead. Foreboding dangers have become deadly facts as those scheming to change the balance of power strike at unsuspecting victims — but which consequences of these actions will result?

Several main characters split off to follow their duty while forsaking the strength of numbers enjoyed together in the second episode of this ambitious cable series, starring Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Mark Addy, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington and Michelle Fairley.
