PIRATES 4 Trailer premiere Pirate Party at Disneyland

Following up on our exclusive PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES 3D trailer preview blog from this morning, here are a few photos and more details on the Fans First event at Downtown Disney and Disneyland:

The event began before dawn as fans lined up outside the AMC theater awaiting their early private screening of the PIRATES 4 3D trailer. A few scalawags enlisted some of the landlubbers in a pirates costume contest to amuse the rest of the crew, and there were a goodly lot of buccaneers and keelhaulers on deck.

Plenty of fans came in costume to Disney's exclusive Fans First PIRATES 4 3D Trailer Debut event

Inside the theater, PIRATES 4 director Rob Marshall greeted the 400+fans attending and introduced a special intro clip by series star Geoffrey Rush who reprises his role as Barbossa, now sailing the seas against Jack Sparrow under the King of England’s flag.

After the screening (Disney showed the 3D trailer twice for good measure), the crew set sail for Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, home of the world famous and movie franchise-inspiring Pirates of the Caribbean ride.  There at the water’s edge, pirates had sailed the sailing ship Columbia into port, playing sea shanties and tunes as the crowd gathered. None other than Captain Jack Sparrow himself (not the real Johnny Depp but a credible simulation) ordered that these new recruits be shot — not with cannon fire or musket, but with cameras — as they swore their loyalty to the pirate code.

A quick interview with Rob Marshall confirmed how happy he was working with Johnny Depp and the entire cast on this fourth PIRATES adventure, and he promised that fans of the original Disneyland attraction will see a couple more ‘easter egg’ homages to the famed ride in his film as another well-deserved tip of the hat to the imagination of Walt Disney who started it all in Disneyland.

Event guests then embarked on the Pirates ride for a quick tour of the Caribbean before heading off to a special Pirates after party for breakfast ashore.  Fans attending the event were then free to spend the rest of the day park hopping between Disneyland and California Adventure all they pleased to make a full day and night of the festivities.
