That’s right, horror fans and fanatics, the original movie hostess with the most — Elvira, Mistress of the Dark — returns to television starting this weekend to resurrect Movie Macabre for all you boils and ghouls out there!
Back on the red velvet hosting couch (where she may have gotten the gig in the first place), Elvira welcomes you into her cobwebbed lair for an all-new season of terrifying shocks and monstrous schlock, adding her own hilarious commentary during breaks to keep you abreast of current events in the Netherworld.
Elvira’s Movie Macabre debut this weekend features a prominent pair of bust-out stars in horror film history — no, not those, I’m talking about Duane Jones and Judith O’Dea in George Romero’s bloody good classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD from 1968.
Movie Macabre airs late night this weekend in TV markets all across the country, but you’ll need to check your local listings to find specific channels and times in your local area. Word from Elvira’s official Facebook page suggests you search your TV/Cable/DVR listings for “Night of the Living Dead” if “Elvira” or “Movie Macabre” don’t show up in search results, as some systems are listing the movie title itself. You don’t want to miss out on Elvira’s return to the boob tube this weekend!
Cassandra Peterson first introduced Elvira as horror hostess in Los Angeles during September 1981, quickly followed the next year by Movie Macabre busting wide in syndication across the U.S. 1982 was also Elvira’s first year to perform her live show at Knott’s Berry Farm’s wildly popular Halloween Haunt event. The Mistress has remained beloved by fans worldwide ever since, appearing in TV specials, feature films, comic books and continues to license top-selling lines of Halloween costumes and merchandise along with her music recording career.
FilmEdge welcomes Elvira back to her groovy graveyard of horror and we’ll be tuning in to celebrate the long-awaited return of Movie Macabre! Now Elvira gives you two more good reasons to look forward to the weekend.
