SUPER 8 viral game sends Rocket Poppeteer letters to ARG astronauts

Paramount’s Alternate Reality Game (ARG) for J.J. Abrams‘ upcoming sci-fi thriller SUPER 8 has been a little slow out of the gate with the film is a year away from release, but that changed today.  Players who registered via a snail mail send-in coupon to the Rocket Poppeteers viral website started receiving acceptance letters to the RP Astronaut Program (scans courtesy of Unfiction ARG player Burn28).  View full-size scans at FilmEdge.net.

The Rocket Poppeteers site employs the design theme of a vintage 1950s-60s childrens ad campaign for Rocket Poppeteers frozen treats (“in 6 out-of-this-world fruity flavors”), which possibly implies a space-alien aspect to Abrams’ film — especially with the Area 51 connection in the teaser trailer.  Sending in the Poppeteers application coupon and space maze to Saturn registered ARG players with their mailing and email addresses, and this letter launches the first contact with the RP viral campaign.

FilmEdge.net is following pre-production developments on SUPER 8 and will be posting more articles and news as they happens.
