Disney may have paused the viral game this past month, but their reboot is in full effect as Comic-Con nears as the marketing campaign for TRON: LEGACY resumes. Today FilmEdge received this vintage-looking postcard from the FlynnLives program, advertising ENCOM’s arcade game Arc Wars. As part of Kevin Flynn’s legacy of creative hits for ENCOM, along side Space Paranoids and Matrix Blaster, Arc Wars put millions of quarters into ENCOM’s pocket but none into Flynn’s after Dillinger stole his game codes.
Of course nothing is quite as it seems in the TRON: LEGACY alternate reality game, as closer examination of the black stripe on the card back reveals a subtle matrix of tiny squares arranged in an unknown coded sequence. Other ARG players at the Unfiction forum reported receiving other card designs today, including for other Flynn Games like Kraz-Bot and Vice Squad, all of which have differing patterns of dots on those card styles. Blacklights were glowing as photos of the glowing ‘pixels’ were posted, with much conjecture flying about overlaying patterns perhaps combining to read a text message in ‘pixels’, or perhaps translating to ASCII, 6-bit or Morse code. So far no plan has yielded a decipherable message, though we’re all waiting to see if more cards show up in mailboxes around the country.
