Reported byKTLA news in Los Angeles this morning, popular 1980s actor Corey Haim has died of an apparent overdose early this morning. Haim, struggling with his health and past addictions, was 38.
Haim died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday of an apparent accidental overdose, according to the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division.
Coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said an autopsy would determine an official cause of death.
Haim was found unresponsive inside a unit at the Oakwood Apartment Complex, located between Burbank and the Hollywood Hills, police said.
He was at home with his mother at the time.
Haim had flu-like symptoms before he died and was getting over-the-counter and prescription medications, Police Sgt. William Mann said.
Four prescription bottles, not related to his illness, were found inside the apartment, according to TMZ. No illicit drugs were found inside the home, the site added.
The Canadian-born actor, who has struggled with drug addiction, was pronounced dead Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank, police said.
Haim gained his greatest fame playing the sympathetic underdog in the 1986 tear-jerker LUCAS, followed by his indelible 80s teen role in the pop culture horror hit THE LOST BOYS.
