Today Paramount Pictures announced the release date for WORLD WAR Z, the apocalyptic thriller starring Brad Pitt as a United Nations worker battling a zombie plague threatening the human population of the globe. Paramount targeted December 21, 2012 as the film’s outbreak in theaters, which means their flesh-eating flick will bump up against Disney’s reboot of THE LONE RANGER starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer on the same date. I don’t think the Mayans saw that mash-up coming.
WORLD WAR Z is based on author Max Brooks‘ best-selling novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War published in 2006, a fictional follow-up to his 2003 book The Zombie Survival Guide, a how-to manual filled with tips on surviving a ghoul uprising.
Marc Forster (QUANTUM OF SOLACE) directs the novel adaptation from Matthew Michael Carnahan‘s script. WORLD WAR Z casting also includes Mireille Enos (THE KILLING, BIG LOVE), James Badge Dale (RUBICON, THE PACIFIC) and Matthew Fox (LOST).
