Directed by Joe Johnston and starring Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, FilmEdge reviews THE WOLFMAN opening in theaters today.
A violent and very traditional tale of lycanthropy which harkens back to the genre’s cinematic origins, THE WOLFMAN is a welcome antidote to the romanticized revisionism of sparkling vampires and teen wolves. Though such reverence for tradition may sap suspense from the film, it delivers a straight up monster movie filled with fog-bound moors, full moon nights and beastly destruction.
Atmospheric cinematography and production design accentuate Rick Baker’s terrific makeup effects which truly bring the beast to life again on the big screen.
But there are some issues lurking under the fur as well. Get the details before the moon rises, read our full length review now at FilmEdge.net.
